ATV Racing Community mourns the death of four family members involved in I-81 crash

The ATV racing community is mourning the loss of four members of the Molander family.

On Wednesday evening, all four members lost their lives in a crash in Franklin County while they were on their way to the Loretta Lynn France in Tenessee for the final race of the season where 19-year-old Dane Molander would compete.

Their RV blew a tire on Interstate 81 and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer, tragically killing all four family members and the truck driver. The accident was previously reported on WGOLV.

Dane was considered a rising star in the sport and just turned pro this year.

His entire family supported him. His sister, Miranda, served as a card girl at the start of each race.

The ATV Racing community is mourning the loss of this family.

"He and his family were just entrenched in this, as you have to be if you're going to compete at that level," said Cotter, director of events for MX Sports.

"It's just gut-wrenching for all of us," Cotter said.

Cotter held back tears as he talked about plans to honor the family.

"We will get together as racing family members, and we'll mourn together, and we'll laugh, and then life will have to go on. But it's not going to be easy," he said.

What should have been a big celebration at the iconic Loretta Lynn ranch will be shrouded in sadness.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends, relatives, and ATV racing community of this family. Prayers also go out to the family and loved ones of the truck driver who also lost his life in this accident.
