Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County:
PA State Police are warning customers to check their groceries after an employee placed sewing needles in food at the 7150 Boulevard Giant grocery store in Lower Macungie Township.
It was determined an employee had put sewing needles into grocery items, which were purchased and returned by customers according to the State Police.
PA police are recommending all customers check their food items for any tampering for items purchased between Thursday, April 13th, and Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from the Lower Macungie Store.
Giant said the tampering happened after 5 p.m. on Thursday 13th and no prior contamination occurred before this date.
No one has been injured in the incident according to Trooper Nathan Branosky.
“No other stores are involved in this isolated incident,” Giant said in a released statement.
The food items that were contaminated were:
single serve Tastykakes
fresh bagged green beans
loose sweet yellow and white onions
fresh green asparagus
soft packaged dog food and treats
soft packaged cat food and treats
instant boxed mashed potatoes, cleaning sponges
Customers who find any needles should call the PA Police and immediately return the item to a Giant store, Branosky said.
Giant said it is in the process of notifying customers who may have purchased these products based on available purchase data.
