Lehigh County Giant Store: Employee put needles in food: UPDATE


Upon further investigation, State Police have identified additional food items that may have been affected by this incident. Customers who purchased King Hawaiian Bread Rolls and StarKist Light Tuna Large pouch (pouches larger than 2.6 oz) who suspect the packages have been tampered are asked to return these items to Giant and contact the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit at 610-395-1438.


Customers who utilized a Giant rewards card that is on file have been contacted if an item they purchased was possibly affected.


This investigation remains ongoing and will continue to be updated as needed.


Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Troop M Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit are currently investigating incidents of food tampering at the Giant in Lower Macungie Township.


On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, Troopers from PSP Fogelsville were dispatched to the Giant located at 7150 Hamilton Boulevard, Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County for the report of food tampering. Upon investigation, it was determined an employee had put sewing needles into grocery items, which were purchased and returned by customers.



Further investigation has revealed the items that have been affected are bagged vegetables and individual Tastykake packaging.


Troopers are recommending customers who have purchased grocery items from this store between Thursday, April 13, 2023, and Wednesday, April 19, 2023, check the purchased items for any tampering.


A juvenile suspect has been identified and charges are forthcoming.
