Remembering Melvin "Mel" G. Bachman II

June 3, 1975 ~ June 15, 2023 (age 48)

Obituary Melvin ‘Mel’ G. Bachman, II, 48, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the loving husband of Margaret (Jones) Bachman, with whom he shared over 21 years of loving marriage. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Don and Mary Ann (Villano) Bachman. Mel was a proud graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, class of 1993. He was employed by the City of Bethlehem as a water meter repairman/reader. He was a 911 telecommunicator for Northampton County, the City of Bethlehem and Lehigh University for over 20 years. Mel was a devoted volunteer fire fighter for Hanover Township and East Allen Township for over 20 years. He was the Vice President of the Bethlehem Catholic High school Band Association, coach for Northwest Little League and a Scout leader for Cub Scouts, pack #368. Mel was an avid bowler for the Panthers, Town and Country Lanes and Bar-Don Lanes. He enjoyed golf, traveling, fishing, the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. In the words of Mel, "Be kind, love with everything you have, be forgiving of others and yourself. Smile, when your heart is breaking. Breathe, just breathe. See the sunrise at least once at the beach. Find a moment of peace and silence and in that moment I’ll be there." Survivors: In addition to his loving wife Meg, he will be remembered by his sons John Bachman and Samuel Bachman; sister Jennifer A. Smith and her husband Robert; sister in laws Anne Beekman and her husband Doug and Mary Macri and her husband Tony and his nephews David Bachman, Brendan Cleary, Spencer Beekman and Christian Macri and his “other kids” to Mel, Bobby and Tylr. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street Bethlehem, PA 18018 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 A.M. until time of the service.
