State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on I-78



Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Troop M Fogelsville Station investigated a single vehicle two-person fatal crash on Monday, November 7, 2022.


On Monday, November 7, 2022, at approximately 9:52 AM, Troopers from PSP Fogelsville were dispatched to I-78 Eastbound, Mile Marker 48.0, Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County for a rollover crash in the lanes of travel.


Upon investigation, it was determined a Mack dump truck, which was hauling a skid steer on a trailer was traveling in the right lane of a two-lane highway on I-78 Eastbound. As the dump truck was traveling eastbound the dump bed struck the Adams Road overpass, causing both the dump bed and trailer to detach from the body of the dump truck. After striking the overpass, the dump truck rolled over and came to final rest in the lane of travel on I-78 Eastbound, Mile Marker 48.


Two occupants inside the dump truck were pronounced deceased by the Lehigh County Coroner.


The right lane of I-78 Westbound remained open during this investigation. Both lanes of I-78 Westbound were reopened at approximately 2:30 PM.


I-78 Eastbound remains closed at this time. All traffic eastbound is being detoured onto Route 863.
