State Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting in Allentown

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Troop M Major Case Team is investigating an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on Friday, June 16, 2023, at approximately 5:41 p.m., in the vicinity of South 3rd Street and West Union Street, City of Allentown, Lehigh County.


Both Troopers and Officers from the Allentown Police Department were jointly conducting high visibility proactive traffic enforcement throughout the city and a traffic stop was conducted in the area of South 3rd Street and West Union Street for a traffic violation.


During the traffic stop, a Trooper discharged two rounds from the Department issued Sig Sauer P227 handgun, striking the operator of the vehicle.





Following the shooting, the operator of the offending vehicle fled the scene, and continued to drive onto South Carlisle Street, where the offending vehicle struck other vehicles and came to final rest in the 500 block of South Carlisle Street, City of Allentown.


The operator of the offending vehicle was transported from the scene by Allentown EMS to Saint Luke’s Hospital Fountain Hill for his injuries. A motorist who was struck by the offending vehicle was also transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.


This incident is being investigated by the PSP Troop M Major Case Team. Assisting in this Investigation is: Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit, City of Allentown Police Department, and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
