"We are thrilled to see the Wire Mill Bridge project come to fruition," said Rick Molchany, Director of General Services for Lehigh County. “The Wire Mill Bridge is an important component of the Allentown Transportation Grid; and with the reopening, businesses, residents and students will have convenient access to assist them in their individual journey throughout the City”.

The $10 million project was managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and involved demolishing the existing structure and constructing a brand new 2-span bridge.

The newly built bridge boasts four lanes of traffic, with two lanes in each direction, along with the addition of sidewalks. It is expected to handle approximately 15,000 vehicles daily, significantly improving the flow of traffic and ensuring smoother commutes.

“We’re excited to see an investment in our city’s infrastructure that will make living in Allentown safer, cleaner, and—ultimately—healthier,” said Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk. “Our streets team was happy to support Lehigh County in this project and looks forward to continuing to invest in our roadways across the city.”

The reopening of the Wire Mill Bridge is thanks to the collaborative efforts of Lehigh County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Kinsley Construction, and the City of Allentown.
